Statements on Diversity, Anti-Racism and Ethnic Discrimination

Diversity Statement

We believe that diversity of thought as well as cultural diversity of staff and volunteers strengthens United Way of Kenosha County's ability to achieve its mission, vision, philosophy, and values.  Diversity and inclusion are at the heart of what it means to LIVE UNITED and are fundamental to achieving our mission and impacting goals in education, income, and health.

Valuing diversity includes respecting and appreciating each person's race, color, religion, creed, gender, nationality, language differences, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, physical, mental and developmental abilities, age, socioeconomic status, veteran status, parental status and the perspectives of each individual shaped by their nation culture, and experiences. We see diversity through active inclusion and recruitment of board members, staff, and volunteers.

Our organization is committed to being a health and human service leader that meets the needs of our diverse community.  Our board, staff, and volunteers should reflect the community we serve in order to understand and respond quickly to the changing needs of our community.

Ultimately, it is our goal to create a culture in which diversity is integrated into every aspect of our United Way's operation.

Anti-Racism and Ethnic Discrimination Statement

We recognize structural racism, ethnic discrimination and other forms of oppression have contributed to racial disparities that have existed in the past and persist in the present.

We acknowledge those inequities are the result of policies and practices that work to marginalize entire populations of people.

We unequivocally denounce racism/ethnic discrimination because it undermines the well-being and vitality of our communities.

Our United Way network seeks to dismantle disparities and strives to engage residents and community members, especially those whose voices have traditionally been marginalized, in the shared work of fortifying equity and empowerment.

We work with public and private partners to co-create solutions that ensure everyone has the resources, support, opportunities, and networks they need to thrive.

We commit to leveraging all our assets (e.g., convening, strategic investments, awareness building, advocacy) to create more equitable communities.
