5 Facts You Didn't Know About Women's Philanthropy

Women are where the power is – at work, at home, and in charitable giving. And there are some pretty incredible data points to back this up. Here are five facts to get you thinking:

  1. Women and girls reinvest an average of 90 percent of their income in their families, compared to a 30 to 40 percent reinvestment rate for men.
  2. Globally by 2026, women’s charitable giving would reach $1 trillion per year if women gave at 1.7%.
  3. Women are more likely than men to give to charity. Women are more likely to give and give more to every charitable subsector with a few exceptions.
  4. Women spend more time than men on researching organizations before making charitable giving decisions and place greater importance on hearing the impact of their gift.
  5. Women are more likely to volunteer and volunteer more hours than men.

Here at United Way we have a global force of nearly 70,000 women in 160 communities across 6 countries, all dedicated to creating a world full of opportunity—for everyone. Our women’s leadership programs have shown huge growth over the past several years and have been a key driver of United Way’s impact worldwide.

These women leaders identify critical local needs to lift the community as a whole and have raised more than $1 billion since they launched in 2002. They speak up, unite and take action on issues that hit closest to home by giving, volunteering and using their voice to make change. And you can join us.
