Celebrate United Award Winner: BeLEAF Survivors, Inc.

beleafToday, we take a moment to celebrate and thank one of the 2021-2022 Celebrate United Award Winners. BeLEAF Survivors, Inc. was awarded the Spirit of Caring Award because of their creativity in and dedication to fundraising for United Way of Kenosha County. Karen Fetherston, Executive Director at BeLEAF Survivors, accepted the award and gave us more insights into their “award-winning” workplace campaign.

BeLEAF Survivors, Inc. is a nonprofit dedicated to providing a safe and compassionate environment to promote hope and healing by lifting, empowering, advocating and fighting for survivors and a culture of consent. UWKC partners with BeLEAF in local efforts through our Community Investment program. We work together year-round to lift each other’s programs and local initiatives. What we’re recognizing today, however, is how their team also manages an exceptional workplace campaign.

“We choose to Live UNITED by very much focusing on the community and the people,” says Fetherston. “We love to give back to the people of the community and also to the funders that we receive such generous funding from.”

In the last year, their entire team contributed individual donations to United Way — an impressive feat no matter the team’s size. Additionally, their campaign also included a successful fundraiser in partnership with the Tiny Cakery, which raised over 500 dollars. This creative partnership allowed BeLEAF Survivors to partner with a local business while uniting the community together to support United Way.

“We feel like it’s really important for us to run a campaign to support United way,” continues Fetherston. “People say, ‘Well aren’t they the ones giving you money?’ Well, we need to show that we are a part of a team.”

All of us at United Way of Kenosha County are impressed with BeLEAF Survivors’ creativity. We’re already looking forward to how sweet their upcoming campaign might be. Thank you for your campaign efforts, which represent the absolute true spirit of our community — in both service to and collaboration with.

United Way of Kenosha County is honored by the commitment of our community partners. Through the United Way Workplace Campaign, we work together to create a thriving community where everyone has access to and participates in education, financial resources, and quality health care. Our Annual Celebrate United Awards, recognize and thank the individuals and partners who exemplified the caring power of our community throughout their workplace campaign.
