Meet United Way of Kenosha County: Betty Makes a Big, Behind-The-Scenes Impact

It is no secret that it takes a lot of work behind the scenes to support a nonprofit in serving the community effectively. Today we would like to introduce you to Betty Collins, who Lives UNITED by playing a pivotal role in the behind-the-scenes work as an administrative assistant at United Way of Kenosha County.

Betty Makes a Big Impact Behind the Scenes

Betty first joined the United Way of Kenosha County team in August, 2023. As the administrative assistant, Betty has been the brains behind the scenes of everyday operations, helping with tasks relating to donor relations, volunteer engagement, VITA scheduling, and other philanthropic initiatives. With a keen attention to detail and a dedication to getting the job done, Betty has helped move so many projects forward, increasing United Way of Kenosha County’s capacity to serve our community.

Born in Chicago, IL, raised in St. Paul, MN, but currently calling Kenosha, WI her home, Betty has learned to love and loved to learn throughout our community for more than half her life. Here, she has raised a family, planted roots, and jump-started a career she’s passionate about.

Betty is currently studying Probation and Parole (P&P) at Gateway Technical College where she considers herself fortunate to be able to pursue a lifelong dream. She is looking forward to graduating with her associate degree and starting her new career very soon. Betty is passionate about entering this field because she knows that so many people think once they get started in P&P that their life is over. Well, that is not true! Betty wants to be a part of helping people gain a new start in life, so they can focus on succeeding and improving their lives — not just as they are required to do but most importantly because they want to for themselves.

“Always put your dreams first no matter what life throws at you,” says Betty Collins, administrative assistant at United Way of Kenosha County. “Your education and career is most important. If you find yourself bored when you are expanding your education, then you’re not working hard enough.”

Outside of work, Betty absolutely loves and appreciates spending as much time with her family and friends as possible. Betty loves her family and feels that having and raising her kids is the most important thing in her life! She always aims to be a great example of a leader and role model for them, being sure to provide them with the necessary tools and ability to allow them to someday make their own mark in the community. We have seen Betty at work and know her passion and commitment paves the way for others to succeed.

What one might not know about Betty, is that she loves to volunteer! Sharing her time and talent is one way she brings joy to others. From all of us at United Way of Kenosha County, thank you for all you do for our team and our community, Betty! We wish you nothing but the best as you prepare for the next chapter in your career.
