Readers Are Leaders

Kenosha County (2/2/2017) – On Tuesday, March 13, 2018 United Way will be hosting the annual Readers Are Leaders event as part of Read Across America - a celebration of the birthday of Dr. Seuss, to share the joy of reading with elementary aged students throughout Kenosha County.

United Way of Kenosha County's Readers Are Leaders Event

In its ninth year, this event recruited more than 200 community volunteers, with the goal of reaching over 4,500 students.

Participating volunteers will convene at the Gateway Technical College’s Madrigrano Auditorium (3520 30th Avenue) at 8:00 am for a brief breakfast and program.

Every volunteer will receive one Dr. Seuss book and a bookmarks for each student to bring into each classroom for the students to keep. Around 8:40 am the volunteers will depart to their classrooms to read the book and talk with the students about why reading is important.

The event is made possible through the partnership with the local school districts, which include: Kenosha Unified, Somers, Bristol and Salem, and also through the generous sponsorship of Carthage College, Platinum Systems, Uline, Gateway Technical College, and Herzing University.
